Facilitation

Founded and facilitated by Darren Sinke.

Darren Sinke is the former CEO of Emmanuel Seniors Living Society, former Executive Director of APHAA, and co-founder of VS Partners.

He holds an MBA from the University of Alberta and has spent his career supporting Alberta’s housing sector through leadership, governance, and organizational development.

Darren believes that when people have room to grow, they become stronger leaders, build better teams, and create healthier organizations.

HLC grew from conversations with senior housing leaders who saw a clear gap: the sector needed a practical, credible space for leaders below the senior table.

A note to housing leaders carrying responsibility today

A letter to today’s housing managers, supervisors, and department leads

A letter from Darren

If you’re here, there’s a good chance you’re carrying more leadership responsibility than your job description prepared you for.

You lead people, make difficult decisions, and balance the needs of residents, staff, operations, and budgets—often without a trusted place to ask questions.

Over the past 15 years, I’ve seen capable managers and supervisors learn leadership by trial and error. They carry enormous responsibility, but rarely have peers who understand the realities of housing.

HLC was built to change that.

It isn’t a course, certification, or another association. It’s a community where housing leaders can compare notes, solve practical problems, and grow together.

The idea came from senior leaders across Alberta who kept saying the same thing:

“We need to do a better job developing the next layer of leadership.”

That’s what we’re building: a practical, generous community created specifically for housing.

Bring your experience, ask the questions you’ve been carrying, and help someone else grow along the way.

I’d be honoured to have you join us.
